Meeting with Poland’s Grand Mufti held at the State Committee on Work with Diaspora

Fuad Muradov, Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Tomasz Miśkiewicz, Grand Mufti of the Republic of Poland and Chairman of the Supreme Muslim College of the Muslim Religious Union in Poland, who is currently visiting Azerbaijan. The meeting focused on the close ties between the two countries and matters of mutual interest regarding the activities of the Azerbaijani community in Poland.

Welcoming the guest, Committee Chairman noted that relations between Azerbaijan and Poland are rooted in a deep history and have entered a qualitatively new stage of development under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. He emphasized that tolerance and multiculturalism are among the key priorities of state policy in Azerbaijan. Religious communities consistently receive the attention and care of the state, and people of different faiths and cultures live in harmony in our country that serves as a crossroads of civilizations.

During the meeting, the Committee’s projects and programs were discussed. It was highlighted that 17 Coordination Councils covering 44 countries work to coordinate the activities of Azerbaijanis worldwide. Detailed information was provided on the consistent and purposeful work of 32 Azerbaijan Houses operating in 20 countries, and on how they support the social, cultural, and economic life of our compatriots. It was noted that two of these Azerbaijan Houses are located in Warsaw and Krakow, Poland, and play a vital role in diaspora development.

The discussion also stressed that Poland is home to one of the largest Azerbaijani community in Europe after Germany. The active engagement of the Azerbaijani community in Poland, its successful integration into local society, and its active participation in the country’s social, political, and cultural life were highlighted. Ongoing and purposeful efforts are being made to ensure the sustainability of diaspora activities.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Tomasz Miśkiewicz praised the positive outcomes of the integration of Azerbaijanis living in Poland and their active role in social, cultural, and economic spheres, describing this as a reflection of the Azerbaijani state’s wise policy. He commended Azerbaijan’s achievements in religious tolerance and multiculturalism, calling the country an exemplary model in this field.

Paweł Radomski, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Azerbaijan, emphasized the significant potential to further develop cooperation between the two countries in many areas, including the diaspora sphere. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Azerbaijani community in Poland.

At the meeting, the medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan “For Service in Diaspora Activities” was presented to Poland’s Grand Mufti Tomasz Miśkiewicz. The guest described the award as a manifestation of the great trust placed in him by the Azerbaijani state.

The meeting concluded with a discussion of issues of mutual interest. Both sides expressed their intention to expand and deepen cooperation in the future. The meeting holds great importance for further strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and Poland, particularly in the field of diaspora activity.
