Meeting with Azerbaijani Community Held in Mexico

Within the framework of the visit to the United Mexican States, Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Fuad Muradov, along with committee staff, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Mexico Seymur Fataliyev, and embassy staff, visited the “Khojaly Genocide” monument, located in Tlaxcoaque-Khojaly Square in Mexico City, paid tribute to the victims of the genocide, laying a wreath at the monument.

As part of the visit, a meeting was held with Azerbaijanis living in Mexico.  The meeting began with the playing of the national anthems of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Mexican States, and honouring the dear memory of our martyrs. The screening of the film, featuring the historic speeches of President Ilham Aliyev and reflecting the victorious spirit of our people, was met with sustained applause.

Seymur Fataliyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Mexican States warmly greeted the guests, briefed about rapid development of modern Azerbaijan, diaspora policy pursued by our state and the role of this policy in the activities of the Azerbaijani community in Mexico. He highly appreciated the contributions of our compatriots to strengthening cultural and social ties between the two countries. 

“Every Azerbaijani residing abroad is a priority for the state, and don’t forget that the Azerbaijani state always stands by you” – these remarks were made by Chairman of the Committee, Fuad Muradov, during the meeting with the community. He emphasized that consistent and systematic work is being carried out with Azerbaijanis living in more than 70 countries around the world, and made a comprehensive presentation on the Committee’s projects. He stated that today world Azerbaijanis are closely united, successfully integrate into the societies in which they live, and contribute to shaping Azerbaijan’s image by representing the country at international events, as well as in academic and business environments.

At the meeting it was emphasized that the Memorandum between the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States, through the Institute for Mexicans Abroad, would further strengthen cooperation in the field of diaspora between the two countries and would pave the way for mutually beneficial initiatives. It was noted that efforts are being made to establish coordination among our compatriots living in Latin American countries, and a review was made of the activities of community members during the Patriotic War and the post-war period.  It was recalled that Azerbaijanis living in Mexico have always been active, and have repeatedly addressed statements to international organizations, including UNESCO’s office in Mexico and the United Nations Environment Programme’s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, drawing attention to the war crimes committed by Armenia against our people.

In their speech, community members expressed their deep gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and heroic sons and daughters for bringing the joy of victory to our people.

Gunel Naghiyeva, who teaches international law at CUESEG University in Mexico, stated that the worthy representation of our country in the international arena instils a sense of pride in our compatriots living abroad.

The meeting continued with a mutual exchange of views, comprehensive analysis of the current situation, and the presentation of concrete proposals regarding future prospects. Participants discussed existing challenges across various fields and shared their perspectives on innovative approaches and practical measures to address them. Particular attention was also given to expanding cooperation, enhancing efficiency, and formulating long-term development strategies.

The meeting with the Azerbaijani community living in Mexico, was also attended by Almurat Turganbekov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Mexican States, Sinan Doruk, Head of the Yunus Emre Cultural Centre in Mexico City, as well as staff of the Committee and the Embassy.

Consequently, such meetings not only strengthen the spirit of solidarity within the diaspora, but also contribute to the building of bridges of friendship at the international level, the development of sincere and sustainable relations between peoples, and the promotion of unity around common goals.
