Coordinating Council of Azerbaijanis for Australia and the countries in Oceania was established

The founding meeting of the Coordinating Council of Azerbaijanis for Australia and the countries in Oceania was held in Sydney.

The event started with the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Australia and a minute of silence was honored in memory of the martyrs, who gave their lives for the sovereignty, territorial integrity of our country and civilians who died as a result of Armenia’s rocket attacks on Ganja, Naftalan, Barda , Terter, Mingachevir and other Azerbaijani cities.

The Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora Fuad Muradov declared the meeting open and gave detailed information about the activity of the State Committee in 2021. He has noted that the Coordinating Council of Azerbaijanis is of great importance from the standpoint of diasporabuilding.

Chargé d'Affaires of our country's embassy in the Australian Union, the Republic of Fiji and New Zealand Ramil Gurbanov called on our compatriots to be active and prevent the Armenian diaspora to spread false information about Azerbaijan.

Chairman of the Australia-Azerbaijan Friendship Association Imameddin Gasimov, chairman of the Australian Azerbaijanis Association Mikayil Oita, chairman of the Australia-Azerbaijan Cultural Association Elkhan Mammadov and member of the Azerbaijan Cultural Center "Victoria" Rauf Shukurov were elected coordinators of the newly established Coordinating Council of Azerbaijanis for Australia and countries in Oceania.

In addition, the coordinators from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and New Zealand, elected via zoom, were approved at the event.

Interactive discussions in the direction of widening the activities of diaspora organizations in Australia were held.

In the artistic part of the event, Azerbaijani folk songs “Sari gelin”, “Aman ovchu” and “Bari bah” were performed on tar by Australian musician John Varney, who lives in the city of Brisbane. Azerbaijani children living in Australia performed “Yalli” - a symbol of solidarity and unity of our people.

It should be noted that the number of Coordinating Councils of Azerbaijanis, covering 36 countries, has reached 15.
