New York hosted the chess tournament, dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev

The chess tournament dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, was held in New York, USA.

The tournament was organized by the "Chess Father" company, led by international chess master Elvin Baghir-Pour, who has been active in the United States for many years, and was supported by the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

First, the memory of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev was commemorated.

Elvin Baghir-Pour emphasized the invaluable role of the Great Leader in the development of chess. He stated that the National Leader consistently kept the development of chess in the spotlight. By the initiative of Heydar Aliyev, many chess schools were built for the first time in the republic, and conditions were created for talented chess players to participate in various competitions.

More than 50 athletes, ranging in the ages of 5 and 60, participated in the tournament. Based on the Swiss system, the athletes competed in 6 matches, each lasting 15 minutes, under the supervision of the referees. World-renowned grandmasters Maxim Dlugy and Mark Paraquay also participated in the tournament.

In the end, Mikola Bortnik took 1st place, Syed Ali Hayder took 2nd place, and Teodr Pimanof took 3rd place. The winners were awarded trophies and cash prizes, while the other participants received certificates.

It should be noted that chess tournament has been held for the third time, starting from the 100th anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. The tournament was officially registered by the United States Chess Federation.
