12 October, 2024Fuad Muradov, Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, who is on a working visit to Malaysia, met with Saraswathy Kandasami, Deputy National Unity Minister.
The deputy minister, who warmly greeted the guest, described this visit as an indicator of the growing development of relations between the two countries and provided information about the history and activities of the Malaysian Ministry of Unity.
Committee Chairman expressed his deep gratitude for the warm reception, provided detailed information about the diaspora policy of the Azerbaijani state, which was established by National Leader Heydar Aliyev and is successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev. He also spoke about the activities of the Committee and the projects implemented to ensure that our compatriots living abroad do not forget their national identity.
Nur Amin Ahmad, the head of the Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books, expressed his satisfaction with the close cooperation with the State Committee on Work with Diaspora and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Malaysia. The recently published book titled “Writing in the heart”, consisting of works of Azerbaijani writers, has been described as an effective result of trilateral cooperation.
The chairman, stating that one of the committee's areas of activity is the development of relations with nations friendly to Azerbaijan, mentioned that they support the publication of books in various languages throughout the year.
In addition to, the meetings were held with Amir Salim Yuksel, ambassador of Turkey in Malaysia, and Dr. Omar Altun, the head of Yunus Emre Institute's representative office in Malaysia.
During the visit, the Committee Chairman gave interviews to Radio Television of Malasia (RTM) and the prestigious “Awani Global” television channel of Southeast Asia, discussing the current state and development prospects of Azerbaijan-Malaysia relations, COP29, Azerbaijan's role in Europe's energy security, the Karabakh conflict, and the plans of official Baku for peace and security in the South Caucasus.
Another meeting was held with the professor and teacher staff of the University of Malaya and Putra Malaysia University (UPM), presentations about Azerbaijan were made. The Karabakh conflict, the liberation of Azerbaijani territories from 30 years of occupation in just 44 days under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, and Baku's peace agenda captured the attention of the professor and teacher staff. Roy Antoni Rogers, the professor of the University of Malaya, mentioned that he visited the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation and saw with his own eyes the mosques and historical-cultural monuments destroyed by Armenians.
Next meetings took place in Selangor Public Library Corporation and National Library of Malaysia. It was emphasized that the most proven way to bring peoples closer together is through culture, and the exchange of books and inter-library cooperation also play a role in the development of Azerbaijan-Malaysia ties. For this reason, it was noted that the Committee supports the publication of dozens of books in various languages every year.
At the end of the meetings, books about Azerbaijan, published with the support of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, were presented as gifts to universities and libraries.
