Our community in the UK has called on Amnesty International UK to carry out an independent investigation and take urgent action
25 August, 2023
The Coordinating Council of Azerbaijanis living in the United Kingdom (CCAUK) appealed to "Amnesty International" for the fair investigation of the narratives surrounding the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and elimination of the critical concerns.
The appeal addressed to the permanent executive director of Amnesty International UK, Sacha Deshmukh, on behalf of CCAUK, highlights that British people of Azerbaijani origin are deeply concerned about the current situation in the South Caucasus region occurred as a result of the unacceptable actions of revanchist forces in Armenia and the Armenian diaspora.
Attention was drawn to issues remaining unsolved after War, to the military and environmental crimes committed by Armenia against our country during the 30 years of occupation. It was underlined that mines buried by the Armenian armed forces killed or injured at least 300 innocent people.
It was emphasized that the Armenian side's failure to provide accurate mine maps to Baku is a gross violation of the law.
The appeal also mentions the illegal exploitation of gold and copper-molybdenum deposits in Karabakh, the looting of more than 60 thousand hectares of forest land, the pollution of our rivers, and the dissemination of detailed evidence by the Armenian mass media about ill-treatment towards several Azerbaijani soldiers, which proves the violation of III. Geneva Convention.
It was once again brought to mind that Azerbaijan, which has proved its commitment to regional cooperation on the example of neighbouring Georgia, is trying to protect its sovereignty in its territories and on the transport and communication routes, in accordance with international legal norms. It was underlined that Khankendi-Lachin road is open.
At this critical and important stage, CCAUK called on "Amnesty International UK" not to believe the Armenian lies, to investigate the military and environmental crimes of Armenia fairly and to take immediate action for the sake of establishing peace, security and stability in the region.
It should be noted that the appeal was submitted to the office of the international non-governmental organization "Amnesty International" .
