Khojaly Genocide: A Black Page in Humanity’s Conscience

A memorial event titled “Khojaly Genocide: A Black Page in Human Conscience" and panel discussions were held in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye.
The event took place in joint collaboration among the Federation of Turkish Azerbaijani Associations (FTAA), the Azafli Social Aid and Culture Association, the Turkish World Cultural Centre, and the Ankara-Baku Promotion and Solidarity Association.
First, the national anthems of the two brotherly countries were played, and the dear memory of the martyrs of Azerbaijan and Türkiye, and the 613 compatriots who were killed in Khojaly, was honoured. Then, a documentary film about the Khojaly genocide was showcased.
First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora Valeh Hajiyev recalled the Armenian’s repeated bloody crimes that committed in Anatolia a century ago in various regions of Azerbaijan, including Khojaly. He emphasized that the main purpose of these crimes was ethnic cleansing and the international community remained indifferent to the killing of civilians. He highlighted that under the resolute leadership of President and Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces restored historical justice.
Member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and Head of the Turkey–Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group Shamil Ayrim, head of the Azafli Social Aid and Culture Association and the Turkish World Cultural Centre Arzuman Azafli, chairman of the Ankara-Baku Promotion and Solidarity Association Settar Kaya spoke about the historical, legal, and humanitarian aspects of the Khojaly genocide and emphasized the significance of the genocide being recognized globally.
After the speeches, the event continued with panel discussions. Professor at Ankara University Javid Abdullahzadeh and professor at Karabuk University Ali Asgar discussed the historical, political, legal aspects of the Khojaly genocide.
The event concluded with a performance by well-known balaban player and People's Artist Alikhan Samadov.
