The “Lazio Scacchi” team, which also included Miragha Aghayev, living in Italy, achieved a historic success in the “Master” series of the 2025 Italian Chess Championship. In the tournament held in the municipality of Darfo Boario Terme, the “Lazio Scacchi” team stood out with an exceptional performance, finishing in first place with 16 points and was crowned Italian champions for the first time.

The Azerbaijani chess player Miragha Aghayev, referred to by the Italian media as a “genius of chess”, also played an important role in this great victory as a member of the team. His steady and confident performance made a significant contribution to the team’s overall success.

"Lazio Scacchi" not only achieved high results in the team score but also in individual performance. The team gained an advantage on four out of five boards, finished first in the overall standings. Alexey Sarana excelled on the 1st board, Sebastian Iermito on the 3rd board, Michele Godena on the 4th board, and Miragha Aghayev on the reserve board, all with brilliant victories.

This remarkable result demonstrates that a new center of power is emerging in the Italian chess landscape. The successful performance of the young Azerbaijani Miragha Aghayev is a point of pride for both the Azerbaijani diaspora and international chess presence.

It should be noted that several clubs including “Grifone”, “Mimosa”, “Scacchistica Trentina”, and “Cerianese”, will join the “A1” series in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, the teams from the lower leagues, such as “Kodokan Messina”, “Scacchistica Novarese”, “Firenze Scacchi”, “Prato”, “Ostia Scacchi”, as well as “La Spezia”, “Varese” and “Chessmate di Bagheria” are set to rise into the top tier.
