Azerbaijani music in Sweden

The concert, featuring Azerbaijani music, took place with the support of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora and was organized by the “Gobustan” Azerbaijan Intellectual's in the church of St. Michael (Mikaelikyrkan) in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.

Concert was attended by about 100 diaspora representatives and foreign guests from various cities of Sweden.

In her speech, Saadat Karimi the chairperson of the “Gobustan” Azerbaijan Intellectual's, provided extensive information about the history of Gobustan, and informed in detail about the ancient petroglyphs that captured the attention of Thor Heyerdahl, the Norwegian scientist, and traveler. Saadat Karimi also spoke about well-known Azerbaijani musicians, emphasizing the significance of the musical heritage left by composers Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Fikrat Amirov, Gara Garayev, Asaf Zeynalli, and Tofig Guliyev.

Burju Kuru, Turkish opera singer, performed Azerbaijani classical music. The audience warmly received the “Gizlar xoru”, from Uzeyir Hajibeyli's operetta “Arshin mal alan’, “Sevil's aria” from Fikret Amirov's opera “Sevil”, as well as Asaf Zeynalli's romance “Ölkəm” with great interest and admiration. Tofig Guliyev's song “Sana da galmaz” was performed again at the request of the event participants.

The tar player Huseyn Nasirli, who came from Gothenburg, performed Said Rustamov's “Oxu tar” and Vasif Adigezelov's “Garanfil” compositions. He was accompanied on the piano by Aynur Malikova, a graduate of the Baku Music Academy named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli and the Frankfurt-Main University of Music and Performing Arts, who currently resides in Sweden.
