Participants of the 5th Summer Camp of the Diaspora Youth have visited Khojaly, Askeran and Shusha

An excursion for the participants of the 5th Summer Camp of the Diaspora Youth has been organized to Khojaly, Askeran and Shusha, which have been liberated from occupation.

First, the camp participants have visited to the Askeran fortress. They have been provided with information about the history and significance of the fortress.

In Khojaly they have been given detailed information about the atrocities committed by Armenian aggressors against the civilian population 32 years ago, the destruction of historical and architectural monuments, as well as the work done in Khojaly since its liberation. The youth have witnessed the restoration and reconstruction works carried out after 30 years’ occupation.

The young people have visited the central square of the city, the “Bullet-riddled Statues” monument, the Ganja gate and other sights in Shusha. They have been informed about the history of Shusha city, and the construction of its fortress walls. It has been reported that the fortress, built by the Khan of Karabakh Panahali Khan defended the city against external invasions for a long time and was a symbol of invincibility. During the occupation period, the fortress walls suffered Armenian vandalism. After the liberating of Shusha, the restoration and reconstruction works have been undertaken. The youth also familiarized themselves with the extensive construction work carried out in the city.

It has been emphasized that along with new construction and infrastructure, special attention is being paid to the restoration of Shusha’s authentic historical appearance and its historical and cultural monuments.
