Centennial Anniversary of the birth has been marked in the USA
8 November, 2023The Yale Club of the New York City hosted an event, held on the occasion of the Centennial Anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, the founder of independent Azerbaijan, a brilliant politician and a powerful statesman.
The event was jointly organized by the American-Azerbaijani Society and the State Committee on Work with Diaspora.
Representatives of the diplomatic missions operating in the USA, ambassadors of Azerbaijan, Türkiye and other Turkic states, diplomats, diaspora member living in various states, intellectuals and representatives of the local community attended the event.
The national anthems of Azerbaijan and the United States were sung, the dear memory of great leader Heydar Aliyev and our martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of our country, were commemorated with a minute’s silence.
Chairwoman of American-Azerbaijani Society, Tomris Azeri, spoke about Heydar Aliyev’s rich statehood legacy and shared her memories.
Yashar Aliyev, Permanent Representative of the Republic Azerbaijan to the UN, has noted in his speech that Heydar Aliyev was a powerful personality who successfully brought his people out of the time’s complex historical and political trials. The diplomat has told that restoration of the territorial integrity of our country, glorious victory won in the 44-day Patriotic War is the celebration of Heydar Aliyev's ideas and result of President Ilham Aliyev’s visionary policy.
Elshad Aliyev, deputy chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, has mentioned that besides being a perfect citizenship role model for future generations, Heydar Aliyev was a statesman with huge experience and a genius who loved his motherland. He drew attention to Heydar Aliyev's tireless efforts to integrate Azerbaijan into the global world. He has added thanks to Heydar Aliyev’s political experience, Azerbaijan, being a young state, could established strong diplomatic, economic and partnership relations with many countries, including the United States.
Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the USA, Vugar Gurbanov spoke about Heydar Aliyev's services of historical significance.
Jeffrey Werbock, Chairman of the Board of the Mugham Society of America, spoke about his meeting with Heydar Aliyev and shared his memories with the great leader. The audience met with applause "Chahargah" Mugham performed by him.
"Dance of the Archers", a piece from the ballet "1001 Nights" was performed by Nargiz Alyarova, the founder of the National Music and Global Culture Society operating in New York, USA, well-known pianist, honored artist of Azerbaijan.
Later, professor of Hartford University Kamilla Mammadova performed musical pieces by famous composer Gara Garayev.
At the event, Azerbaijani artist-sculptor Emin Guliyev, who lives in New York, presented a monument dedicated to the Centennial Anniversary of the birth of great leader.
The event concluded with the screening of the documentary film about the life and activity of Heydar Aliyev.
