Azerbaijani diaspora organizations issue joint statement on Netherlands’ biased position

On September 13, the government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands presented a program containing its plans for the current term of office to the public. The liberation of Azerbaijani territories is mentioned as "capture of Nagorno-Karabakh" in the "International security" section of this program, which covers the growing conflicts.

The Azerbaijani diaspora organizations in the Netherlands expressed their objections in this regard. Coordination Council of the Netherlands-Belgium Azerbaijanis, the "Mother Vatan" Netherlands Azerbaijani Women's Union, the Azerbaijani-Turkish Cultural Society in Holland, the Benelux Azerbainjanis Congress, International Azerbaijani Ladies' Club, Azerbaijan-Netherlands "Odlar Yurdu" Society issued joint statement condemning the biased position of the Netherlands against the country.

It is stated in the statement that it is unacceptable that the document, when addressing recent conflicts, refers to the liberation of Azerbaijani territories as the “takeover of Nagorno-Karabakh” and emphasized that the steps taken by Azerbaijan for the restoration of territorial integrity are fully in accordance with the norms and principles of international law.

It is also highlighted that this interpretation reflects a biased stance towards Azerbaijan and misrepresents the post-conflict reality in the region.

At the end of the statement, Azerbaijani diaspora organizations called on the government of the Netherlands to adopt an objective and balanced approach and strongly urge it to refrain from statements that could negatively impact relations with Azerbaijan.”
