11 July, 2024Azerbaijani community living in Calgary represented Azerbaijan at the famous "Stampede" parade held in Calgary, Canada. The Azerbaijan’s culture was showcased by the Alberta Azerbaijani Cultural Society.
At the parade, a model of the Maiden Tower, an Azerbaijani carpet, flame sculptures symbolizing the Land of Fire, musical instruments, depictions of Karabakh horses, and the Shusha Fortress were showcased to the event participants via a specially designed vehicle adorned with national ornaments. The specially designed vehicle, designed by our compatriot Jamila Javanshir, who lives in Australia, was prepared with the assistance of Irada Shamilova, Alex Gubski, and other community activists.
Under the flag of Azerbaijan and the sounds of National music, approximately 300,000 Calgary residents watched the procession. The online audience of parade numbered around 5 million viewers. Our community was greeted with applause of spectators and welcomed with joy and pride from our compatriots.
The "Stampede" parade - one of the world's largest outdoor shows, has been held annually since 1912. This year, our community took part for the first time.
It's noteworthy that our participation was prominently featured on Canadian TV channels. Jeyhun Najafli, the head of the Alberta Azerbaijani Cultural Society, expressed gratitude to all volunteers who contributed to Azerbaijan's representation at the event.
