18 October, 2026
Regular meetings with Azerbaijanis living abroad are an important part of the projects and programs implemented by the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan, aimed at building a global Azerbaijani community.
As part of his visit to Greece, Fuad Muradov, Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, met with Azerbaijanis in the capital, Athens, to discuss a roadmap for diaspora activities. The meeting was part of these broader efforts.
The event began with a rendition of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, followed by a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of our homeland.
Video presentations featuring key speeches by the Head of State were screened during the meeting. Discussions focused on the activities of the Azerbaijani community, strengthening national solidarity, and supporting future initiatives.
In his speech, Arif Mammadov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Hellenic Republic, stated that the meeting with the community demonstrated that Azerbaijanis living abroad remain a constant priority for the Azerbaijani state. He also spoke about the integration of Azerbaijanis living in Greece into local society and their successful initiatives to promote Azerbaijan.
“The diaspora policy pursued under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev makes a significant contribution to uniting Azerbaijanis living abroad around a shared national identity and accelerating the process of community consolidation,” said the Chairman of the State Committee in his address. Providing a detailed overview of the Committee’s projects and programs, Fuad Muradov noted that significant progress had been made in strengthening coordinated activities among Azerbaijanis living abroad and ensuring that they effectively represent their country internationally.
Subsequently, a coordinator for Athens, Greece, was elected within the Coordination Council of Azerbaijanis Living in Eastern European Countries. The newly elected coordinator shared views and proposals on organizing the Azerbaijani community in Greece.
The meeting continued in a warm and constructive atmosphere, with questions from community members answered and ideas exchanged regarding new initiatives.
The participants expressed their gratitude to the Azerbaijani state for its continued attention and support for Azerbaijanis living abroad, as well as for the measures implemented to strengthen national unity.
It should be noted that in 2025 alone, the leadership and staff members of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora visited 30 countries, while 800 events were held abroad at the initiative of the Committee and diaspora communities. These efforts have continued to gain momentum in 2026.
