Aziz Sancar, the Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, world-renowned Turkish scientist, physician, and academician, has addressed a letter of appreciation to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

In his letter, Aziz Sancar described being awarded the “Shohrat” (Glory) Order as one of the proudest and most joyful events of his life. He expressed his deep gratitude to the Head of State for the high honor bestowed upon him.

Aziz Sancar emphasized that his affection for Azerbaijan has always been sincere and has never been driven by any expectation of recognition or reward. He noted that Azerbaijan has always held a special place in his heart as a homeland as dear to him as Türkiye. The scientist stated that he would proudly wear the “Shohrat” Order not only as a symbol of appreciation for his scientific achievements, but also as a symbol of the brotherhood founded on the principle of “One Nation, Two States.”

It should be recalled that, by the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 7 September 2026, Aziz Sancar was awarded the “Shohrat” Order for his outstanding contributions to strengthening the international scientific and humanitarian cooperation of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that Aziz Sancar, who has made significant contributions to world science, is a distinguished scholar whose activities have served to reinforce the unbreakable brotherhood between Azerbaijan and Türkiye and to strengthen solidarity between the diasporas of the two countries.
