Meeting with Western Azerbaijanians has been taken place at the 5th Summer Camp of Diaspora Youth
6 August, 2024The topic of the next meeting at the "Youth for a Green World" 5th Summer Camp of Diaspora Youth has been dedicated to Western Azerbaijan.
The head of the Office of Western Azerbaijan Community Galib Gasimov, employees of the Community Sanan Ahmed and Anar Irzaguliyev, Doctor of History, leading researcher of the Institute of Oriental Studies of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy in History, Associate Professor Afshan Shafiyeva have attended in the meeting. The meeting has been moderated by Esmira Khalilova, an employee of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora.
A documentary film titled "A Close Look at Western Azerbaijan" has been screened, photos depicting the historical-architectural monuments, geography, and natural beauty of Western Azerbaijan have been presented, along with a presentation about the history and altered toponyms of Western Azerbaijan at the event.
The head of the Office of the Western Azerbaijan Community Galib Gasimov has spoken about the community's activities and the Return Concept.
The speakers have stated that the destruction of the ethnic presence of our compatriots, who lived for millennia in the historical Azerbaijani lands, current territory of Armenia, and the destruction of their cultural heritage was a state policy of Armenians. It has been noted that, Azerbaijanis were completely removed from their ancestral lands as a result of the last ethnic cleansing in 1988.
It has been highlighted that the Western Azerbaijan Community was created for the purpose of studying and promoting the rich historical and cultural heritage of our people in Western Azerbaijan, restoring the rights of Azerbaijanis and their heirs who were massively deported from the territory of Armenia and their descendants it the international arena, ensuring the return of those people to their ancestral homelands, and achieving peaceful coexistence. The participants have recalled with pleasure the meeting of the country's leader with a group of intellectuals from Western Azerbaijan at the Community's administrative building in December 2022, and have expressed their confidence that Western Azerbaijanis will return to their historical lands as soon as possible.
The role of the Azerbaijani diaspora in conveying the history, culture and truths of Western Azerbaijan to the international community has been discussed at the event. The importance of the youth being active in this matter has been highlighted, recommendations have been made.
Diaspora youth have asked the questions of interest to them and have expressed their commitment to fulfilling their responsibilities regarding the topic of Western Azerbaijan in the countries where they live.
In the end, small gifts have been presented to the authors of the best questions.
