Iğdir hosted the conference dedicated to the January 20 tragedy
21 January, 2025The conference titled "We did not forget, we will not forget" dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy was held in Iğdir, Turkey.
Fuad Muradov, the chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, attended at the event, organized by the Igdir Azerbaijan House at Igdir Cultural Center.
The conference began with the playing of the National Anthems of Azerbaijan and Turkey and commemorating of the memory of all the Turkic world’s martyrs.
The head of the House of Azerbaijan in Igdir Ziya Zakir Ajar, Consul General of Azerbaijan in Kars Zamin Aliyev, MPs of Turkey Cantürk Alagöz and Shamil Ayrim, professor Oghuzkhan Aydın, and others, who gave a speech, looked back at the history of the tragedy. They spoke about the power the Turkic world and the eternity of Azerbaijan-Turkey friendship.
The committee chairman Fuad Muradov recalled the historical circumstances in which the January 20 tragedy occurred, expressed his gratitude to the people of Turkey, who have always stood by Azerbaijan. He conveyed the recommendations of the President of Azerbaijan regarding work with our compatriots living abroad and expressed gratitude for the attention shown to Azerbaijanis living in Turkey.
The governor of Igdir, Ercan Turan stated in his speech that no historical truth, including the tragedies committed in Karabakh, will be forgotten or allowed to be forgotten.
At the conference, various stages of modern Azerbaijani history were reviewed, and the historic speech of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev regarding the January 20 events was remembered. The pride felt over the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity under the leadership of the victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev was expressed. Video materials reflecting the President's thoughts, the events of January 20, and the protests held by Azerbaijani communities abroad were watched with interest and received with applause.
Participants of the conference, which was attended by hundreds of people and filled with great enthusiasm, stated that January 20 is not a tragedy but a heroic epic and a historical moment. They emphasized that the cherished memory of the martyrs of Bloody January will forever live in the hearts of the entire Turkic world.
