Conference dedicated to Aida Huseynova, concluded

The online conference titled “Building Musical Bridges: Through Research and Scholarly Unity” dedicated to the creativity of Azerbaijani-American musicologist, educator, and PhD in Art Studies Aida Huseynova, has concluded.

The conference, organized by the Azerbaijan-American Music Fund with support of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, was attended by scholars and researchers from Azerbaijan, the U.S, Japan, Great Britain, Russia, and Canada.

In her speech, Jamila Javadova-Spitzberg, founder and executive director of the Azerbaijan-American Music Fund, spoke about Aida Huseynova’s extensive scientific work and creative achievements.

Elshad Aliyev, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, highly appreciated the event for its valuable contribution to the intercultural musical dialogue, and wished success to the participants.

In total, more than 80 participants attended the event, which also featured a competition for the “Aida Huseynova – Best Article Award.” Based on the evaluation results, the authors of the best articles were selected. The first place was awarded to Rena Fakhraddova and Tina Mohandas, second place to Alexandria Sultan von Bruseldorf and Humay Ahmadova, and the third place to Aleksey Rumyantsev and Behrang Nikaeen. An encouragement award was presented to Polina Desyatnichenko.

 

It should be noted that Aida Huseynova is an author of the fundamental monograph titled “Azerbaijani Music: From Mugham to Opera” (Indiana University Press). This work holds great scholarly and cultural significance as the only comprehensive study on Azerbaijani classical music written in English.
