An article written by Yegana Salman, director of the Azerbaijani Cultural Center under the “AzIz” Israel-Azerbaijan International Association, draws attention to the fact that people of different nationalities, including Jews, were among those killed in the bloody massacre committed by Soviet troops in Baku on the night of January 19-20, 1990.
It was noted that Alexander Markhevka, an ambulance doctor in Buzovna took the wounded to a hospital, Jan Meyerovich was shot dead by Soviet soldiers as he was leaving his acquaintance at the airport, family's only child, 16-year-old Vera Bisantina, was shot dead in her apartment. It is noted that the family members of Markhevka, Bisantina and Meyerovich currently live in Israel and have not forgotten this pain.
