A video conference on "Russian Orthodox Church in Azerbaijan" was held on September 22 as part of the project "Although we are different, we are strong together."
The event, organized by the State Committee on Work with Diaspora and the State Committee on Religious Associations, with the participation of archbishop of the Baku and Azerbaijan eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Church Alexander Ishein, was opened by the curator of the project Aydan Israfilova.
The event, moderated by Farhad Ibrahimov, a researcher at the Russian State Management University and a specialist at the “Valday” International Discussion Club, was addressed by Tural Aliyev, sector head of the State Committee on Religious Associations, and Archbishop Alexander Ishein. Aliyev gave detailed information about the history of the Russian Orthodox Church in Azerbaijan and the settlement of Russians in our country.
Speaking about the history, development and activities of the Russian Orthodox Church and Christianity in Azerbaijan, Archbishop A. Ishein noted that there were 17 Orthodox churches in Baku in the early twentieth century. Recalling the opinion of national leader Heydar Aliyev, "Multinationalism is our wealth," the archbishop said that during the presidency of the great leader, great importance was attached to the Orthodox community in Azerbaijan. At present, this course is being continued by President Ilham Aliyev at a very high level. The activities of the Russian Orthodox Church are supported, and all opportunities have been created for the functioning of religious communities in the multinational Azerbaijan.
The event was broadcast live on Facebook:
It should be noted that the purpose of the "Although we are different, we are strong together" implemented by the State Committee on Work with Diaspora is to promote the values of multiculturalism and tolerance of Azerbaijan in the world, to contribute to strengthening the position of our compatriots abroad in the countries where they live, to expand relations and partnership with diaspora organizations, communities and religious organizations in our country.
